Some of the features that we gathered in the requirements document raised usability concerns, so we set up a usability plan. I recruited and screened participants with the only enticement being prime tickets to a Tech TV show of their choice. I then worked with another IA and usability specialist to create a test script. The three of us rotated through moderating, note taking, and recording during the actual sessions. The final report outlined actionable improvements to the message boards, which we translated into the updated Functional templates (pdf).
